One morning the wife of Confederate soldier Benjamin Franklin Jackson awoke to find a dove sitting on her windowsill. She began to weep believing that it was an omen that her husband was dead. She wept alone and in silence, fearing that her family would think her superstitious or crazy. Benjamin F. Jackson was killed that same day in the Battle of Atlanta.
